Internet Public Relations - Using the Web to Increase PR Initiatives

Public relations - a professional trade that has been known to take a back seat to Marketing and Sales - seemed to have been left behind on the web in the past years.

One need only look at marketing and ad agency brochures to realize that how Marketing professionals flocked to the web. We’ve been inundated with Website Marketing and Internet Marketing talk, not to mention the entire new industry of Search Engine Marketing.

But what happened to Public Relations on the internet? For all the attention that is received to the concepts of website marketing and perfecting your skills as a website marketer one key concept was overlooked - the web is, and always has been, a haven for public relations professionals.

It’s true that at Greg Banig Design & Marketing we focus on website marketing, but we begin with website public relations and use that base to expand our clients online (and offline) awareness, exposure and reach.

Let’s face it. Your website is your public relations face to the world. If you think it’s your marketing brochure to the world…well, sorry to tell you, you’ve missed the target by a mile.

Successful internet public relations and internet marketing programs need to begin by looking at a website as a public relations voice to the world, not a sales voice to the world.

Visitors come to your website looking for information and community tools…not necessarily a sales pitch. Too many companies focus on the later. Why? Well, it’s honestly a lot easier to just drop a slogan and sales brochure online and call your site done. It takes a lot more work and time to develop a Public Relations focused website - one that builds awareness, creates an online community for your clients and customers to share and connect online, provides news and information, and strengthens your overall brand and public awareness.

Internet Public Relations. The phrase has a nice ring to it. Listen to it and you’ll have a slightly longer road to developing your website, but you’ll also have a much more successful and trafficked website.
